No one want that precious bundle to start crying after you have just gotten them to sleep. Create a beautiful sign to hang on the nursery door or on your front door by the bell to keep others from making noise. Another place to hang the sign on the front door is in the center of a wreath. Everyone will easily see it.
Design fits in your 5 x 7 hoop. I used a 1/4″ wooden dowel rod and bought wooden end caps that fit it. Design is made entirely in the hoop with no additional sewing.
Step-by-step directions included.
Make it in several colors that match the nursery or home décor or for an elegant look, just keep all the colors the same. Try ivory, pink, baby blue, or other pastel color. Beautiful! One yard of ribbon makes the hanger and bows if desired for embellishing. Design is stitched on white felt but could easily be stitched on another non fraying fabric.
This is perfect for the new mama or grandma who babysits.
If you are looking for a small gift to give to the ladies at your next luncheon, coffee or other get together, here is a “sweet” Candy Flower Bouquet that you can make in your 4 x 4 hoop.
5 designs in the set: 4 flowers and 1 leaf design.
These stitch up quickly and easily and are a great beginner in-the-hoop project. The centers are intentionally left blank for you to fill with a wrapped candy, button or other round object. This is a good project to use your variegated thread!
Step-by-step instructions with photos included. The designs shown here have been stitched on felt.

We are at the last day of the party. I want to thank all of you for coming. Many of you have written me with birthday wishes and they have all made my day, my week. Thank you.
Now for today’s design. The Cupcake Candy Holder. As guests leave the party it is nice to send them off with something in their hand and something sweet.
Today’s design is a cupcake candy holder. It is quick and easy to make and takes just scraps of felt. It is made in your 4 x 4 hoop and I’ve included lots of step-by-step photos with it. There is a small slit on the back of it where the candy is inserted. Any small candy is fine. I’m partial to M&M’s 🙂
Make a bunch to set around the party table or have a basket full ready at the door.
You can find the Cupcake Candy Holder HERE in the Embroidery It Etsy shop for only $1.00 for the next 24 hours.
Remember those handwritten notes we would write on paper and pass in school? Sometimes just a simple note to say “Happy Birthday” is needed and nothing is better than a machine embroidered note. Even the notebook paper, which is white felt here, is part of the design! But you could use any white fabric. Pure simple country charm.
Just a Note design comes in two sizes. One for your 4 x 4 hoop and the other for your 5 x 7 hoop.
Just wander on over to the Embroidery It Etsy shop and you can find the design HERE.
To go with all those creative homemade gifts and yummy goodies, here is a set of mason jar tags. Quickly and easily the set of 4 are made in your 4 x 4 hoop. Step-by-step instructions included. Design is stitched on felt and could easily be stitched on other fabric of your choice. Your gift giving gets a sweet added touch.
Mason Jar Tags can be found HERE in the Embroidery It Etsy Store.
It seems like word art, phrases and sayings are all the rage these days. You see them on everything. Why not do them with machine embroidery? It is a fun way to add a bit of personalization and decoration to our space.
Every Day I Need comes in 2 sizes. The smaller size fits in your 5 x 7 hoop and the larger size fits your 8″ and larger hoops.
I’ve also included a basting stitch around the design due to the larger size and to help ensure its stabilization. It is removed quickly and easily after the design is stitched. Or if you don’t want it, just advance your machine past the first color stop.
You can frame it in a regular frame or for some added fun, use a regular embroidery hoop and add a pretty bow. You can also make a beautiful pillow with this.
Oh how the little cowboys and cowgirls love to put on their boots and hats and strut around. Now you can embroider something to show them just how ‘sweet’ they are to us by embroidering a Cowboy and Cowgirl Lollipop Holder.
Designs are made in your 4 x 4 hoop.
Designs are made with stops to change colors for the words, horseshoe, border and eyelets but if you like, just do them all in one color for a great look.
Requires only 2 pieces of 5 x 5 felt.
Step-by-step instructions with full color photos included.
Cowgirl design has extra eyelets that you can thread with a ribbon to form a bow.
Hate spending time while rushing to get ready for work or school and searching for the perfect outfit? Eliminate that morning chaos. Now you or your child can get ready for the week ahead of time and make mornings run just that much more smoothly by having your outfits planned. No more discovering at the last minute that something needs to be pressed or a button sewn on.
Days of the week closet organizer has a Boho-chic feel and contains 8 designs. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and a Blank for your own personalization. Fits closet rods up to 1 3/8″ diameter.
The design fits the 4 x 4 hoop.
Step-by-step instructions with photos included.
The design is stitched on felt and I used a variegated thread for the flower border.
Great for selling at craft shows and is also a lovely gift.
Need a place to set your ice cold glass of sweet tea or fresh watermelon cooler? Now you can stitch up a set of these Summer Citrus Coasters in minutes. Make them different colors so each family members knows whose glass is whose without the confusion. It’s an accent to your table or picnic that shows summer freshness at its best!
Coasters are made with only one color thread and are done completely in-the-hoop using your 4 x 4 hoop. This is a great beginner project. Includes step-by-step instructions.
Friends, I hope all of you are just easing smoothly into summer with all the warmth and beauty it has to offer. Take time to slow your pace and enjoy a refreshing beverage out on your front porch and enjoy the evening fireflies.
Have you tried machine embroidery on paper? It really is fun and I have a set specifically designed for paper. Of course you can stitch it on fabric as well.
Now you can create your own keepsake embroidered cards and embroider on paper! This set lets you mix and match to create your own one of a kind Graduation and Father’s Day Cards.
Set contains 7 design files: Card, Congratulations, Happy Father’s Day, Large and Small Graduation Cap, and Large and Small Tie. The card design requires a 5 x 7 hoop but the smaller elements may be stitched in the 4 x 4 hoop.
You can mix and match the card elements as desired to make your special card truly one-of-a-kind.
Here’s a tip…Save those needles that are still good yet you change just because you are starting a new project. Use those for stitching on paper. You don’t need to use your brand new good needles.
It’s that time of year. My two youngest are both in college and although they are not looking forward to finals, they are looking forward to a break from their studies.
If you have a new graduate in your family or your child/grandchild has a special teacher, here is a quick and easy in-the-hoop project to whip up on your embroidery machine.

Wrap up a gift for your special teacher and your favorite graduate. These gift boxes made on your embroidery machine hold several pieces of imported chocolate, a gift card to a favorite place, a handmade bar of scented soap or other small gift.

ps. I have some companionship in the Embroidery It studio this week. We are waiting for mom’s furniture to arrive.
Another fun in-the-hoop machine embroidery project for you! Make a beautiful bouquet of flowers to set on your table or to give to a child’s teacher. Made in your 4 x 4 hoop quick and easy. Note the beautiful light satin stitching. This helps your project be completed quickly!
There is a file for the leaves, petals and center. Get creative with the number of petals and leaves used. A great scrap stash buster!

Just imaging your Easter dinner table with a sweet treat at every place setting. Make extras for your children and grand children to give to their teachers and friends. And the oh’s and ah’s at a baby shower using the bunny candy holder as party favors.
Today I am sharing the St. Patrick’s Day Treat Bags made with your 5 x 7 hoop. It does take 2 hoopings but is very simple. It is a great project for a beginner new to doing in-the-hoop machine embroidery.
There is even a video on YouTube to walk you completely through the process and you will see just how easy it really is!
There are two designs in the set, a shamrock and a horseshoe which would also be good for a horse lover anytime.
Those in the picture are done with clear vinyl so you can peek into the bag, but you could use a coordinating fabric just as easily for a beautiful look.
We are already through January. 1/12 of the way through the year! At the end of each month it is a good time to look back and to reflect. I hope in your reflection time you find you have made progress towards some of your creative goals.
Looking back at my schedule of creative plans is something I enjoy doing. It lets me see how far I’ve come and what I still need to do.
Take a moment to reflect back as well as to look forward. What worked for you last month? What didn’t? Did you enjoy your creative time? Use that knowledge in moving forward. What creative plans do you have for this month? How will they be fit into your calendar? How will you most enjoy your creative time?
For me, two things that really worked were scheduling creative time on the calendar and daily journaling. I journaled 23 out of 31 days and it became a great way to process thoughts which in turn helped my productivity immensely. Because of such good results, you better believe I plan to continue scheduling and journaling.
Here are some of the creative things I made during January.
I embroidered two shirts for Mike’s birthday. Both designs came from Designs by Sick.
A Valentine Treat Bag for Emily with her sorority letters. My own creation.
I have also found a new quilt shop here in Grand Rapids!!!!! Yippee!!!! It was total eye candy. I am hoping to take a class that will be in April which will be a lot of fun.
Another thing I did here in January which relates to creativity is I joined a local group of business women entrepreneurs that meet monthly. It’s nice to get out of the house and share ideas with others in person. It’s easy for me to stay at home–too much so I need to make a real point of getting out of the house more. I came home from the January meeting fresh and inspired and look forward to our next meeting.
If you would like to look back and refresh yourself on any of the A New Year, A Creative New You posts, you can find them here:
I so wish we could get together and stitch. Since we are scattered around the planet, I created a video stitching one of the Valentine Treat Bags. It is the closest thing to a little virtual embroidery party I can come up with.
These treat bags are made in the 5 x 7 hoop and require 2 hoopings. You hoop once to make the back of the bag and then a second time to make the front. No additional sewing required.
Here is the video and I hope you will stitch right along with me.
Someday Friends, maybe we will get to meet in person and stitch together.
How fun to create embroidered Valentine’s day cards for your children, grandchildren or even yourself to share with loved ones and friends.
The Valentine’s Day Lollipop Holders are stitched on felt and make the perfect Valentine. There are 4 designs in the set and all are made in the 4 x 4 hoop. Step-by-step instructions with photos included. It is great for beginners who have never tried in-the-hoop embroidery before.
