Hi Friends,

Years ago there was a television show on called Aleen’s Creative Living.  You still see Aleen’s glue and other products in the craft stores.  Anyway, on this show, there were a number of episodes where they embossed velvet using rubber stamps.  They would apply an hot iron to back side of the velvet which was placed over the rubber stamp and the results were stunning designs embedded into the velvet.

Well Friends, we can do the same thing with our FSL in place of the rubber stamps.  Use an iron with no steam holes so you won’t get the hole pattern on your velvet.  Use a hard surface to press on.  Determine where you want the impression and mark it on the wrong side of the velvet with chalk.  Spritz the velvet with water so it is just damp.  Place the FSL on the hard surface and place the velvet right-side down over the FSL.  Using high heat (test the fabric first for scorching) push the iron down firmly for 15 to 20 seconds but DON’T slide the iron.  Just straight down and straight up.

Using FSL angels, hearts or flowers makes a beautiful border on a little girl’s velvet dress.   Another idea is to use the velvet to make beautiful embossed pillows.  If you want to try this as a smaller test, consider using the velvet to make a gift card holder embossed with a heart for a Valentine’s Day gift.  This is just another way to take your embroidery projects to the next level.

Remember, Be Creative Daily!

Blessings everyone,

Nancy
