Every year is a fresh start and a chance to develop into a new routine and rhythm. With each new year, I find a word to focus and guide my intentions for the next 365 days. As always, that word always seems to find me and this year, my word of the year is Soar.
Right now I am trying to find that new routine and rhythm as many changes have been happening in my life.
You see, after 30+ years of my husband working in corporate America, we have decided to make a change and go into business together.
We seriously considered opening a bed and breakfast.
We looked very seriously into opening a restaurant.
Then we were connected with a franchise broker. She evaluated our personalities, strengths and needs and presented us with a number of franchise possibilities for us to look into. And so we did. All things considered, running a franchise is a “less risky” business venture. We dove in deep into the options presented and a few weeks ago Mike and I took a trip out to Salt Lake City, Utah and then Orange County, California for the Discovery days of our final two choices. “Apple Spice” a lunch box catering company and “Sign World” a sign company.
We decided upon Apple Spice, www.applespice.com and have been moving forward. They approved us and we signed the papers. Currently we are looking for our location and have plans to open this summer.
It is funny, because when the word “soar” spoke to me, I thought it would relate to Embroidery It. Now I realize it is leading me to grow as a person and as a leader. I am learning so much as we’ve never had experience in owning a franchise and all that is involved with it. However, I’ve also been able to utilize some of the knowledge I’ve gained running Embroidery It and apply it to our new business venture. The skills I’ve gained here have been, and will be a true blessing for our future.
So how this all applies to Embroidery It……..
Embroidery It is going to be a little quieter as I figure out my footing and new daily rhythm. Embroidery It will remain here, but new designs won’t come out as often. The remainder of the free alphabet will continue. The sew-alongs are going to pause. I just don’t know enough of my schedule for now. If a sew-along happens, it will be an impromptu one rather than on a set time and day of the month. Thank you for your understanding of the changes I must make at this time.
Now, as I focus on the word “soar,” there are a few specific areas in my life I’m hoping to improve.
- Taking a step forward in our new business each day.
- Learning something new each day.
- Consistent dinner menu planning – this is a weakness of mine yet I know it is a huge time saver.
- Moving my body each day. Either going to the gym or 10,000 steps.
- Really stepping out and attending local events. So many things happen in our community and we will say, “that sounds like fun.” But then we do not attend them. I want to become a contributing member of our community. I want for both myself, and Apple Spice to be a blessing in the community.
As we continue moving into this year, thank you for your prayers and support. I’m here, but it may just take me longer to respond. I will always bee your biggest cheerleader as I see you post around the web your beautiful creative projects.
Much love to you all and thank you for joining me on this journey.
